－：地震の時にゴールドシップは福島にいたんですか？
吉：はい。“3.11”の福島で地震にあいました。コレは大変だと思って、さっき言った通り、北海道に戻しました。－：福島から北海道に帰っていったんですか？
吉：せっかく24時間掛けて福島まで来たのに、2週間もたたないうちに馬運車に揺られて、北海道に戻って行きました。北海道から弊社の分場の石川県に行ったりとか、あちこち回りました。そういう意味では僕も須貝先生もあの馬に何も調教していないですよ。あの馬を調教したのは馬運車の会社です(笑)。
－：馬運車の移動で鍛えたんですか(笑)。
吉：結果的に、馬運車がゴールドシップを鍛えたのかもしれません(笑)。でも、あの大地震にあってなかったら、もっと言うことを聞かない馬になったかもしれません。地震の大揺れで大人になったのは確かです。
－：人間にはイジめられていないけれど、地球にはちょっと脅された訳ですね？
吉：脅されましたよね。
－：強い精神力の馬ですね。そこで終わる馬もいるかもしれない恐ろしい状況でしたからね。
